When Nicki’s marriage to her high-school sweetheart ended abruptly after the birth of their son, she made the decision to give up on all she had known before and move, with her 10-month old baby, to the other side of the world to be nearer to her family. The expectations of life looking a certain way were shattered, leaving a slate wiped clean.

The adjustment to a new life, not only as a mother but also living in a new country, was initially not easy, as Nicki tried to hold onto the old and the familiar belief systems. Gradually, she was able to surrender into a new way of being in the world, endeavoring to honor her essence, rather than trying to live a life that was not truly hers. She believes that the authentic journey is essentially an imperfect one, filled with many twists, turns, diversions and dead-ends. Along the way, there are also periods of apparent nothingness – “fertile emptiness” – where all the activity is occurring beneath the surface. Nicki believes fervently in the need for us all to honor the small, quiet voice within, journey through life authentically, and trust in the perfect imperfection.
